- We are very pleased with the outcome and that we can lift the bike as an alternative when commuting, says Sara Persson, coordinator at the Swedish Transport Administration.

During August this year, cycling between Malmö and Lund increased by 30 percent.

Last year, about 600 people cycled daily on the route, but this year the number rose to 800 people.

During the train stop at the end of August this year, even more commuters chose to take the bike.

This shows data taken from measuring points on the cycle path at Gamla Lundavägen in Åkarp and Hjärup.

- 1638 cycled during the train stop and we had our peak on Tuesday.

Throughout the week, cycling increased by 50 percent, says Sara Persson.

"We will use the same concept in the future," says Sara Persson, coordinator at the Swedish Transport Administration.

100 people on guided tours

For two weeks in August, the Swedish Transport Administration offered guided tours on the route to attract more people to cycle.

During this time, there were 100 people who accompanied the tours.

- It has really been appreciated.

And we noticed that people who have been on a trip later in the week chose to cycle themselves and that is the idea, says Sara Persson.

Now the Swedish Transport Administration will take advantage of the experience of guided bike rides.

- We will definitely do the same in the coming shutdowns.
