It took more than three hours and the use of five fire hoses to overcome it.

Saturday afternoon, the firefighters of Loire-Atlantique were called for a brush fire in the Fresnay marsh, in the town of Villeneuve-en-Retz.

If this type of intervention is rather banal, the origin of the fire is less so: the flames would have broken out after a bird struck a high voltage line of 20,000 volts, witnesses reported.

More than 1.5 hectares gone up in smoke

Three years ago, the press had already reported a similar incident.

In the Var, a bird caught fire after touching a 60,000 volt line.

It had caused a fire to start in the middle of the forest, burning 6,500 m2 of land.

According to Loire-Atlantique firefighters, this time, more than 1.5 hectares of brush went up in smoke on Saturday, due to the wind and difficulties in accessing the site.

The firefighters were to carry out a new round this Sunday morning.
