Yesterday, Friday, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Saeb Erekat said that Palestine has become a victim of the electoral ambitions of US President Donald Trump, in response to Trump's announcement of the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Israel, and Serbia's pledge to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Erekat wrote - in a tweet on Twitter - that Trump's team "will do everything to ensure his re-election, even if it destroys peace," referring to the US presidential elections scheduled for the fall.

Palestine has become a victim of President Trump's electoral ambitions, and it appears that his team is ready to take any action, regardless of its destructive effects on the possibility of peace and the systems of international law, for the purposes of success in the elections.

"The Trump administration once again shows its full commitment to violating international law and United Nations resolutions and denying the rights of the Palestinians, by encouraging states to unlawfully recognize annexed Jerusalem as the capital of Israel," he added.

In December 2017, Trump announced Washington's formal recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and moved his country's embassy from Tel Aviv to it.

Erekat called on the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take concrete measures against those who encourage crimes and violations of the Palestinian land and people, including recognition of the illegal annexation of Jerusalem - the occupying power - by Israel.

On August 13, Israel and the UAE agreed to normalize relations between them, in a move that the Palestinian leadership considered a stab in the back of the Palestinian people and their leadership.

New leadership

In turn, US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien called for the creation of a "new generation" Palestinian leadership.

In a statement to the US Internet radio program "The Hague Hoyt Radio Show", O'Brien said that the problem lies in some of the old leaders holed up in the Palestine Liberation Organization.

We need a new generation of Palestinian leaders, young men who want a great future alongside their Arab brothers and Israeli neighbors, he added.

And he considered that this could constitute a wonderful future for the Palestinians, "and our hands are outstretched to help them reach this future, and I hope they hold this outstretched hand soon."

He believed, "Young people in the region want hope and opportunity, to have a wonderful home and education for their children, and to get married, as is the desire of young people in the world."

And he considered that the Palestinians coming to the negotiating table with Israel would carry a "unique opportunity" with Trump "to show that he can accomplish big deals."

"We have a lot of credibility in the negotiations to work with our Israeli friends, to make sure that happens. So this is an opportunity for the Palestinians to sit at the negotiating table and have a lot for themselves," O'Brien said.

This is the second similar call by an American official in two days, as Jared Kushner, senior advisor to the US President, said in statements to Al-Jazeera that the Palestinian people need "leadership capable of achieving a better life."

On January 28, Trump announced the alleged "deal of the century", in a plan that included the establishment of a Palestinian state in the form of an "archipelago" linked by bridges and tunnels, while making occupied Jerusalem the alleged capital of Israel, which was rejected by the Palestinians.
