German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has expressed optimism about the chances of containing the emerging corona virus.

Steinmeier said, in statements to the German media network, "Deutschland", yesterday: "I find the reports on promising vaccine research very encouraging ... there is light at the end of the tunnel, but we do not know the length of the distance there. Therefore, effort and discipline should not be indifferent now." We have taken control of the (Corona) emergency, and now we will not fail to return to the new normal, which is grazing the pandemic.

Steinmeier mentioned that the people's pressure is real, expressing his understanding of the growing fear, and said: “But the decrease in the number of new infections, and the possible easing of restrictions as a result of that, are convincing arguments for maintaining caution,” adding that “stress (from the restrictions) of Corona” should not turn into Careless.

For her part, German Chancellor Angela Merkel praised the role played by the health authorities in the country, during the fight against the Corona pandemic.

In her weekly televised message on the Internet yesterday, Merkel said: “If our country has passed the pandemic relatively well, and if the infection rate does not reach the level that we have seen in other countries, then that is due to what is being done, daily, in the public health service. ».

Merkel said that public health service personnel have made a "significant contribution" to fighting the pandemic.

Merkel plans to hold talks with officials in this sector, during a video conference next Tuesday.

The Chancellor stated that she wants, in particular, to know "the course of action in local health departments, the challenges that may arise there, and how the political circles can help in facing them."

The Chancellor stated that the matter is now related to strengthening public health services in the long term, adding that in the "Public Health Service Charter", there are plans to provide more job opportunities and improve technical equipment, stressing the importance of rapid digital communication.

Steinmeier said he understood the growing fear.
