The Basque Government deployed, despite the pandemic, all the

paraphernalia

that turns the oath of a Lehendakari into a

nationalist liturgy

in which it is relegated that it is

King Felipe VI

who in a royal decree

"I have come to appoint President of the Basque Government" Iñigo Urkullu

.

The

solemn act

organized by the autonomous Executive and the Basque Chamber

relegated Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska

-the only representative of the Spanish Government- to a

room adjacent to the plenary hall

of the Gernika

Board of Directors

.

Behind him was the former ETA prisoner, leader of Herri Batasuna and coordinator of EH Bildu

Arnaldo Otegi

that after the act he denounced

the "persistence of state violence"

for the alleged suicide of an ETA member in the Martutene prison last Friday.

Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska heard how Otegi accused the prison policy of the

suicides of five ETA members

but decided to improvise an appearance before the media without questions to

value the pact between nationalists and socialists

in Euskadi with an eye on the Negotiation of the General State Budgets for 2021. Once the alliance with the PNV in Euskadi has been strengthened, the Basque socialists silenced their discomfort when they saw how the only representative of the State was led to the 'stained glass room' of the Gernika Board of Directors because

Marlaska had no place among the 72 spaces set up

for Basque parliamentarians, for Urkullu's family, for auxiliary personnel and for the Basque television technicians in charge of the event's signal.

The judge and now Minister of the Interior tried to function naturally in the groups prior to the act by seeking the complicity of other socialist representatives.

Patxi López

-the only former lehendakari who was at the event because neither Ardanza, Garaikoetxea nor Ibarretxe were present-, the president of Navarra

María Chivite

and the Government delegate in Euskadi Denis Itxaso wrapped up the minister before Urkullu's arrival at the Gernika Board House.

Otegi, barely four meters from Marlaska, was preparing his

plea against "the exceptional and criminal penitentiary policy against prisoners

" that he made public while Urkullu was still photographing himself next to the Gernika tree.

A formal image in which the socialist minister also participated and who took the opportunity to convey to Urkullu the congratulations of the Prime Minister

Pedro Sánchez

.

Urkullu, as is also the custom among the nationalist Lehendakaris,

only used Basque for the swearing-in of office

.

Another minor detail for the PSOE that, as evidenced by both Grande Marlaska and the new second vice-lehendakari Idoia Mendia, insists on pampering their

entente with Ortuzar's party

.
