In Haiti, food insecurity worsens further

More than 4 million inhabitants of the Caribbean country are in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the latest analysis from national authorities and the UN.
If climatic disasters partly explain this situation, the socio-political crisis is also the cause.

For Fabien Tallec, food security sector coordinator for the World Food Program (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Haiti, corruption and the socio-political crisis are largely responsible for this humanitarian catastrophe.

It is a country which does not know either large movements of cross-border populations with refugee camps

Haiti suffers, like some African countries, from a relatively weak state structurally with insufficient investment in public infrastructure.
