As specified, 11 senators asked Mnuchin to "immediately" impose sanctions against a number of Russians.

Congressmen refer to the conclusions of the director of the US National Center for Counterintelligence and Security, William Evanina, concerning Russia.

"It is high time for the administration to send a direct message to President Putin: the United States will immediately and decisively respond to continued interference in the elections," the senators' letter said.

In August, the US Senate Intelligence Committee released an election meddling investigation report that said Russian leader Vladimir Putin “instructed” to hack the Democratic Party's servers in 2016.

As stated in the Kremlin, Russia has never interfered in electoral processes in any country in the world.
