Tsinghua University ranks among the top 20 universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings

  Xinhua News Agency, London, September 2 (Reporter Liang Xizhi) The Times Higher Education UK announced the 2021 World University Rankings on the 2nd. Tsinghua University in China has risen 3 places from last year and tied for 20th with Duke University in the United States. It is the first Asian university to enter the top 20 rankings.

  This year, a total of 1,527 universities from 93 countries and regions were shortlisted, and a total of 91 universities from mainland China entered the list.

In addition to Tsinghua University, there are five universities shortlisted in the top 100, namely Peking University, Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiaotong University.

The number of universities in mainland China that have entered the top 100 has doubled from last year, reaching a new high.

  There are 6 universities in Hong Kong, China, and 3 of them are in the top 100; two universities in Macau, China, and 38 universities in Taiwan, China.

  The University of Oxford in the United Kingdom has topped the rankings for five consecutive years, while Stanford University and Harvard University in the United States are ranked second and third.

  Phil Barty, Chief Knowledge Officer of Times Higher Education, said that this year's ranking is an important milestone. For the first time, a university in mainland China has entered the top 20, and the number of mainland universities in the top 100 has doubled.

  The Times Higher Education World University Rankings measure the comprehensive strength of universities based on multiple indicators such as teaching, research, citations, industry income, and internationalization. It is regarded as one of the more authoritative world university rankings.
