03 September 2020The trade unions of the school Flc Cgil, Cisl Scuola, Uil Scuola Rua, Snals Confsal and Gilda Unams will take part in the event organized by the "Priority to school" Committee to be held on Saturday 26 September in Rome, "to reaffirm the central and priority role education and knowledge as a condition of growth in the country and to report delays and uncertainties that accompany the start of the school year, risking to compromise its reopening in the presence and in safety, the main objective of the trade union action conducted in the prolonged emergency phase ".

Flc Cgil, Cisl Scuola, Uil Scuola Rua, Snals Confsal and Gilda Unams, recall that "since last spring, they identified priorities and needs for the restart, indicated solutions and solicited investments in terms of staff, spaces, services connected to right to education such as, for example, transport and canteens, considering the investment in professional resources that the school especially needs as a priority.

Mobilization and proposal, from the strike of 8 June to participation in the drafting of safety protocols, have characterized the unitary trade union action of these months; this is not matched by a similar commitment and assumption of responsibility by the government and the Ministry of Education ". "But the country - they say - cannot afford to restart with a lower training offer, due to delays and insufficient resources. We need a change of direction in public policies, to be steered decisively in support of development through targeted choices of strong investment in strategic sectors, starting from education and training, indispensable factors for strengthening the democratic fabric and the recovery of the country. The crisis caused by the pandemic makes a radical change in the social-economic-political paradigm even more essential , which knowledge has the task of guiding in the direction of an active citizenship, understood as the ability to take part in the processes of transformation, having the values of democracy, ecological sustainability and peace as the basis of action ".

In the opinion of the trade unions, "urgent measures are needed to immediately guarantee everyone the right to education, work, health and, alongside this, investments to retrain the public education system, to raise levels of knowledge, strengthening and extending the right to education and training; it is time to make courageous choices to combat inequality, dispersion, precariousness, allocating a substantial part of the 'Next Generation EU' funds, the so-called Recovery fund, to places where the 'next generations' they will have to grow and be formed ".

"The square of September 26 will see us together with male and female workers, with students, families, citizens, to affirm and defend our idea of school, constitutional body and pillar of democracy, on whose enhancement credibility and the future of the whole country ", concluded Francesco Sinopoli (CGIL), Maddalena Gissi (CISL), Pino Turi (UIL), Elvira Serafini (Snals) and Rino di Meglio (Gilda).

Landini: "Reopen immediately and start a reform"

"As far as we are concerned, it is time not only to reopen schools quickly but also to carry out a huge reform of the school system". This was stated by the general secretary of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini, speaking with journalists in Bari, on the sidelines of the General States of the CGIL Puglia. "We need nursery schools for everyone - he added - and we need to make school from 3 to 18 years old compulsory. And consequently we need to make the right to education become a subjective right, guaranteed for each of us throughout our life" .

Speranza: "School is priority and it will start again"

"The absolute priority we are working on is the school". This was confirmed in Scala (Salerno) by the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, on the sidelines of the commemoration of Blessed Gerardo Sasso. "The schools will all restart in September and will restart safely. This, for us, is an absolute priority", he stresses. "We are working tirelessly, we are building unprecedented investments. I think the conditions are in place to fulfill this goal which, for us, is the top priority of the restart season," he says.

First day of medical tests: 66 thousand candidates for 13 thousand faculty seats

First day of medical tests, in Turin, and in front of the Lingotto entrances, the protest of the students of the Communist Youth Front is staged, who have unrolled a banner with the words 'The pandemic has proved it, the limited number must be abrogated'. There are 66,000 candidates for 13,000 faculty seats. "Does the government really believe that adding 5,000 places this year alone will solve the problem of a collapsing health system?", Ivan Boine, provincial secretary of the FGC, asked in a statement.

"For some time now, the lack of at least 50,000 nurses and tens of thousands of doctors has been denounced - adds Boine -. We see systematic cuts and measures implemented in support of private clinics that profit on health and in the face of the virus they ignored it. . Precisely the limited number for the medical faculty is one of those measures that have destroyed public health ".
