The Netflix video platform will produce an eight-episode mini-series dedicated to former Brazilian Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, who died racing in 1994. It will be released online in 2022.

More than 26 years after his death, Ayrton Senna remains an icon for many enthusiasts of F1, a sport he marked by his charisma and his extraordinary personality.

Winner of 41 Grands Prix, which still places him in fifth place in the ranking of victories, the native of the State of Sao Paulo was known for his aggressiveness in the race and his ability to get the best out of his car.

Adored, criticized, Ayrton Senna has long maintained a tense relationship with the French champion Alain Prost, who was his teammate in the McLaren team, and has regularly distinguished himself by his bloodshot.

Three times world champion, he died during the Grand Prix of San Marino on May 1, 1994, after going off the road at over 300 km / h and colliding with a safety wall.

Produced by Brazilian company Gullane for Netflix, the fictional mini-series "enjoys the active support of the pilot's family," the video-on-demand service said in a statement.

Filming, in English and Portuguese, will take place in the house where Ayrton Senna grew up.

The series will begin in 1981, when the Brazilian driver made his debut, at age 20, in Formula Ford, often considered the first step towards accession to F1.
