A new cut of "Godfather 3", the latest installment in Francis Ford Coppola's famous mafia trilogy, will hit theaters in December, Paramount studios announced Thursday.

This film, sequel to two of the greatest classics of Hollywood cinema, poorly received by critics on its release before being partially disavowed by Coppola himself thereafter, will benefit from a new editing more respectful "of the original vision "from the director and screenwriter, Mario Puzo.

"For this version, I created a new beginning and a new end, rearranged some scenes, some shots, and musical cues," Coppola said in a statement sent to AFP.

"These changes, in addition to the restored footage and sound, offer a more relevant conclusion to 'The Godfather' and 'Godfather 2'," he added, swearing that these were his "intentions. 'origin "for the" Godfather 3 ".

This new version of the film, often considered the ugly duckling of the trilogy, will hit theaters in December for its 30th anniversary, before being available later on streaming platforms.

This latest installment in the trilogy follows a Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) in his 60s who tries to get his family out of the mafia world.
