Wearing a mask will be compulsory in the streets of downtown Rennes, Saint-Malo, Cancale and Vitré until at least October 31.

So decided the prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine Michèle Kirry, who issued a new decree on August 31.

According to the state representative, “the health situation remains worrying in the department”, which justifies the extension of protective measures against Covid-19.

However, the obligation to wear a mask has been lifted for users of non-motorized vehicles such as bicycles or scooters.

The request had been made by user associations.

The obligation to wear a mask applies to all 11-year-olds and remains in effect “in places identified as areas with high population density, conducive to the circulation of the virus”.

This concerns in particular open-air markets, clearance sales and all enclosed places open to the public.

Over 150 new positives in three days

From August 28 to 31, 333 new positive cases of coronavirus were recorded, including 154 people residing in Ille-et-Vilaine, the Breton department most affected by the epidemic.

From August 17 to 23, 39,000 tests were carried out in Brittany with a positivity rate of 1.8%.

This figure is lower than the national average, which is around 4%.
