02 September 2020The 77th edition of the Venice Film Festival has officially started.

On the red carpet of the Lido, in front of the Palazzo del Cinema, a large parade of stars paraded, for the first time without the public to welcome her behind the balustrade of the waterfront.

Ennio Morricone

in the Great Hall.

The start of the ceremony was exciting with Maestro Andrea Morricone conducting the Roma Sinfonietta orchestra with the theme of Deborah, the iconic piece of Once Upon a Time in America, composed by his father.

Laces

is the film that kicked off this important edition of the exhibition.

Applauded by the press, it will hit theaters on October 1st.

Director Daniele Luchetti brought to Venice a story of love ties but also a story about the fear, hatred and anger that some relationships bring with them.

Taken from the book by Domenico Starnone, it is written by the director with him and Francesco Piccolo, played by Alba Rohrwacher, Luigi Lo Cascio, Laura Morante, Silvio Orlando, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Adriano Giannini, Linda Caridi, Francesca De Sapio.

Minister

Dario Franceschini

applauds "the courageous choice of the Biennale" to hold the Venice Film Festival in these complicated times.

He said it on the red carpet of the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema as he entered for the opening ceremony.

"A global and international signal on cinema restarts from Venice, an important signal - added Franceschini, stopping briefly with the press -. We must, as we are doing here, respect distances, use all precautions. It is tiring but you can to do, to start again is possible and indispensable ".

"From the beginning we said: we have to do the exhibition. We have to do it even in difficult conditions. We worked very hard but today the weather also helped us. For months we worked in uncertainty. In May, with the first release of the lockdown, we began to think about doing the exhibition but we had about 30 titles and we thought that perhaps they would not be enough for the organizational and also economic commitment that the exhibition entails. In mid-June we understood that we could reach 50 titles, then in reality we arrived at 64-65 titles, and we decided that we would do the exhibition ".

Australian actress

Cate Blanchett

said she was baffled that other countries did not learn from Italy's pain to be better prepared to fight the coronavirus epidemic when it spread.

Blanchett, who heads the virus-proof Venice Film Festival jury, arrived at the Lido wearing a surgical mask and skipped the typical water taxi speedboat photoshoot that stars routinely use.

Signs that the star intends to abide by the rules of safety and social distancing which have added a certain degree of sobriety to the festival.

The one in the Lagoon is the first international showcase of films produced before the covid-19 emergency, with the cinema industry practically at a standstill since last March.
