World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, favorite of the US Open, qualified for the third round by winning at the expense of tenacious Briton Kyle Edmund, 44th in the world 6-7 (5/7), 6-3 , 6-4, 6-2, Wednesday in New York.

He ended up taking the measure of his opponent, but "Djoko" got it right by mentioning before the match "a hard worker, who likes a challenge, with a very good service and a big forehand".

It is with these weapons and an undeniable nerve that the latter jostled his prestigious opponent, to win the tie-break of the first set, under the interested eyes of Andy Murray in the stands.

The Serbian, who had just lost his first decisive game after a winning streak of ten, then had to raise his level of play, which he only partially did, author of more unforced errors than usual (34 ) often punctuated by cries of frustration.

But even in a "worse" day, he was able to string together winning shots to remove the next three sets in 3 h 13 min and add a 25th success in as many matches in 2020.

His next opponent will be the German Jan-Lennard Struff.
