Drugs that are flushed down the drains are harmful to the environment and fish - that is the opinion of research engineer Per Magnus Ehde at Halmstad University. To minimize the environmental impact, he and his colleagues are now investigating how treatment plants can become better at stopping various types of drugs that come in from being released.
Some treatment plants are better than others at cleaning drugs.
Per Magnus Ehde can state this after several treatment plants in Laholm, Hylte and Kungsbacka investigated.
- It needs to be improved, there is quite a difference between different treatment plants, my task is to find out why some treatment plants are good at removing cocaine and why others are not so good, he says.
