A. GELEBART / 20 MINUTES

Perhaps the ploy was a little crude.

The manager of a PMU bar located in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine (Seine-Saint-Denis) who passed himself off as the holder of a winning ticket of 4.4 million euros, was sentenced in July to three years in prison, including one closed, we learned Tuesday from the Bobigny prosecutor's office.

He appealed against this decision, rendered on July 1 after his trial held last May, said this source.

The judgment was accompanied by a ban on exercising any profession related to gambling and betting for five years, and the amount received was confiscated.

4.4 million euros in earnings

In 2016, it was informed by PMU that a Quinté plus winning ticket had been played in its bar.

After having succeeded in identifying the lucky lucky one, he had made him believe that his ticket was a winner only up to 16,000 euros and had paid him this sum in cash, traced a source close to the file.

He then retrieved the ticket, without however validating it in the machine provided for this purpose.

He claimed to be the real holder, which allowed him to pocket the 4.4 million euros in earnings, continued this source.

The manager and his partner were arrested on their return from Istanbul to Turkey, with 400,000 euros in cash hidden in their bag and their underwear, she said.

The man was already implicated in several other cases of aggravated fraud and money laundering, she added.
