The Emirate of Dubai maintained its advanced position as the first Arab destination for medical tourism for the second year in a row, based on the "Global Medical Tourism Index" recently issued by the International Health Care Research Center (IHRC).

The emirate, which is considered one of the most prominent centers of choice on the global tourism map, ranked sixth in the world, within a list of 46 of the most unique international destinations, in a qualitative achievement that reaffirms its success in developing modern infrastructures and advanced medical facilities that enhance its competitive elements in providing Advanced healthcare services for travelers coming for treatment purposes from different parts of the world.

During the first half of this year, the Dubai Health Authority issued 3,397 licenses for health facilities in the emirate, while 45 new health facilities were opened, in addition to one hospital and 10 general and specialized medical clinics during the first six months of this year.

Dubai hosts 20 licensed centers specializing in "traditional, complementary and alternative medicine".

Together, the centers provide eight services listed under "traditional, complementary and alternative medicine", under the supervision of 234 specialists.

There are also no less than 20 specialized medical centers operating in the emirate, which are managed by highly qualified individuals.

The latest achievement comes as a result of the proactive efforts made by the Dubai government, represented by the "Health Authority", to strengthen the medical tourism sector and activate its pivotal role as one of the main pillars for the success of the economic diversification policy and advancing comprehensive and sustainable development.

Huge investments have been devoted to building modern hospitals equipped with the finest health facilities and medical equipment in Dubai, as well as attracting an elite of international doctors from various specialties.

The Executive Director of the Health Regulatory Sector at the Authority, Dr. Marwan Al-Mulla, said that the results of the "Global Medical Tourism Index" confirm the level of quality and efficiency of health care services that enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of Dubai as a leading global center for integrated health care.

He added: "The new achievement comes as a result of our commitment to strengthening the regulatory frameworks within the medical system, creating modern infrastructure, and building world-class capabilities in the field of health care, to ensure that the needs of the Emirati community are met to be healthier, happier and safer."
