The two former Tour de France winners Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas, not selected to compete in the Big Loop this year by their Ineos team, will be at the start of the Italian stage race Tirreno-Adriatico, the organizers announced.

The 8-stage race, which will start on September 7, will also welcome the double winner of the event Vincenzo Nibali and Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo), Jakob Fuglsang and Aleksandr Vlasov (Astana), Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) ) or Rafal Majka (Bora-Hansgrohe), according to the list of participants released on Wednesday.

Froome and Thomas, excluded from the Tour de France where Ineos has chosen Egan Bernal as leader, will be able to prepare on Italian roads for their respective major fall meetings, at the Tour of Spain (October 20 - November 8) as leader for the first and at the Giro (October 3-25) for the second.

Tirreno-Adriatico, won last year by Slovenian Primoz Roglic, will have eight stages this year against the usual seven.
