China News Service, September 2 (Reporter Chen Jing) In recent years, China's severe shortage of pediatricians has become one of the reasons for children's "difficulty in seeking medical treatment", and the shortage of pediatric medical staff in the central and western regions has become more prominent.

On the 2nd, 40 doctors and nurses from the central and western regions of China walked into the relevant departments of the National Children's Medical Center and the Pediatrics Hospital of Fudan University to start a six-month advanced study.

They are the first trainees of the "Firefly Dream" neonatal and child intensive care training program.

It is reported that the project is aimed at medical staff in central and western regions such as Shaanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Gansu, etc., and aims to train high-quality pediatric medical professionals in the region and improve the diagnosis and treatment of local pediatric diseases.

Qiang Jiu Zhuoma, a nurse from the People's Hospital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, was in the children's intensive care unit that day, and followed the instructor Qin Yan to familiarize himself with the ward environment.

Like Qiang Jiu Zhuoma, Bao Xuebing from Baoshan, Yunnan, and Dr. Lu Gongzhi from Guangxi, were also enrolled in the neonatal intensive care unit and the children's intensive care unit respectively.

In the central and western regions of China, not only is the number of pediatricians seriously insufficient, but the level of medical care is also far behind that in developed regions.

It is understood that in the central and western regions of China, there is not only a serious shortage of pediatricians, but the medical level is also far from that of developed regions. Medical institutions in some regions are not even equipped with pediatric expertise.

The shortage of pediatric medical staff and the shrinking of the talent team have become a bottleneck restricting the development of children's health in the central and western regions.

Xu Hong, secretary of the Party Committee of the Children's Hospital of the Children's Hospital of Fudan University, told reporters that in the field of public welfare, compared to direct donations, the "Firefly Dream" project is undoubtedly a more meaningful attempt.

According to Xu Hong, the hospital has been committed to the development and construction of pediatrics in central and western China, supporting Tibet, Xinjiang, Qinghai and Yunnan, etc., and has sent dozens of experts to provide medical assistance, significantly improving the level of pediatric diagnosis and treatment in local hospitals.

Since 2011, the "Fudan University Pediatric Hospital Central and Western Region Pediatric Physician Training Project" jointly established by the hospital and caring companies has held more than 10 training courses; "Academician+" in cooperation with the China Red Cross Foundation In the project, more than 80 students from Guizhou, Ningxia, and Shaanxi graduated successfully.

It is understood that the telemedicine center of the Pediatric Hospital has covered 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country.

The number of consultations in the two western provinces of Xinjiang and Yunnan accounted for about half of the total number of remote consultations, and the proportion of difficult, critical, and rare cases exceeded 80%.

The hospital has realized a multi-dimensional cooperation model with counterpart support such as remote consultation, live surgery, and ward rounds.

The Pediatric Hospital of Fudan University told reporters that in this project, medical staff in second- and third-tier cities in the central and western regions with more than three years of experience in pediatrics will work in the neonatal intensive care unit and children’s intensive care unit. Doctors receive multi-level, multi-form and multi-channel training under one-to-one guidance and guidance to improve professional quality and skills.
