A month after controversy over the'one-piece dress' of Justice Party lawmaker Ryu Ho-jeong, the National Assembly Legislative Investigation Office issued a report saying that a'minimalistic regulation' should be prepared for lawmakers' clothes.

The report published on the 2nd said that the controversy over the dress of the plenary chairman of parliamentarians was a trigger, and that "we have reviewed whether there are stipulated regulations on the dress of parliaments in major countries."

According to the report, the parliaments of major countries such as England and France also had a common point that controversy over the clothing was raised whenever there was a legislator who was relocated in a soccer team uniform or casual dress.

A long-standing practice related to legislator attire was to wear a suit such as a tie and a jacket, but after the controversy, both Britain and France banned clothes with a slogan expressing certain views, commercial messages, or religious symbols, and'neutral dress'. We have created a regulation that requires you to wear clothes.

The report described this as "representing the perception that lawmakers should express their views through speech and discussion, and not use clothing as a means."

In addition, he added that there is no stipulated separate dress code for the US, German and Japanese National Assembly.

Korea also currently does not have a separate dress code for the National Assembly, and only a comprehensive provision in Article 25 of the National Assembly Act, entitled'Regulation for maintaining dignity as a member of the National Assembly'.

The report concluded, "By preparing'minimalistic regulations' for the attire of members of the National Assembly, we will be able to block unnecessary controversy that is not an essential problem in the performance of legislative activities by members of the National Assembly."

Earlier, on the 4th of last month, Rep. Ryu Ho-jeong attended the plenary session of the National Assembly wearing a dress and received criticism of "there is a time and a place," and at the same time, attracted attention while advocating for "showing deprivation."
