David Schenker, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, said that resolving the Gulf crisis is a priority for President Donald Trump's administration, noting that there are still differences between the parties to the crisis.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera, the American official considered that the Gulf dispute does not serve anyone but Tehran, and that because of this disagreement there is no unified position towards the Iranian threat.

Schenker added that Qatar is deprived of airspace, and it is forced to fly its planes over Iranian airspace, paying fees for that, which exposes Qatari aircraft to danger.

He praised the "great" efforts made by Kuwait to solve the crisis, and said, "We are taking small steps to resolve the remaining differences, and we hope for the coming days and months to succeed in resolving this dispute."

On the other hand, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported that Schenker praised Doha's efforts as an active partner in combating terrorist financing, through its efforts, positions and legislation, stressing that these efforts contribute to preventing the financing of the phenomenon of terrorism.

He also stressed the importance of military and security cooperation between Qatar and the United States, stressing that this cooperation contributes to establishing peace in the Middle East region and dealing with its issues closely and effectively.

He described the State of Qatar as an important ally of his country, stressing that the two countries work side by side in all international forums and organizations.

Schenker also praised the Qatari role in the Afghan peace talks, whether between Washington and the Taliban, which resulted in the signing of a peace agreement last February in Qatar, or with regard to the Afghan-Afghan dialogue, expressing his aspiration to host the dialogue in Doha.
