The French army accidentally killed a Malian civilian and injured two others on Tuesday, September 1, during an incident in northeastern Mali.

According to a statement from the French general staff, members of the Barkhane anti-jihadist force fired warning shots when a fast-moving bus refused to slow down.

The incident occurred about fifty kilometers from Gao, when "a bus which was heading at high speed in the direction of the (French) military convoy was the subject of summons".

One of the shots was "directed at the ground", but "two bullets ricocheted off the ground and went through the windshield, injuring three passengers, one of whom the severely" hit died after being transferred to the force hospital Barkhane in Gao, details the staff.
