01 September 2020 Di Maio visits Tripoli, where a suicide bomber blew himself up this morning.

According to what is learned, it will see the head of the government of national agreement, Fayez al-Sarraj, the president of the parliament of Tobruk, Aguila Saleh, the president of the Noc (national oil company) Mustafa Sanalla and the president of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Meshri This

is the minister's first trip abroad since construction resumed.

On 17 August he had been in Tunisia.

The reason for the visit to Libya is the delicate situation on the ground and the recent Sarraj-Saleh agreement for a ceasefire.

Di Maio is accompanied by Undersecretary Di Stefano, delegated by the minister to work to set up a mixed Italo-Libyan commission for economic matters.

Di Maio's plan includes the resumption of the old agreements signed by Silvio Berlusconi, with the aim of giving new impetus to Italian investments in Libya and offering new opportunities for growth to our businesses and the Libyan people. Maio had already discussed this with Sarraj during his last visit to Tripoli.
