China News Service, September 1 (AFP) According to a report by Agence France-Presse, after the explosion in the Beirut port of Lebanon, many related personnel have been arrested.

A source in Lebanon said that on August 31, local time, a judicial official issued an arrest warrant to five people, increasing the number of people arrested for the explosion to 21.

  The source said, “The investigating judge Fati Sawan interrogated Abdul Hafiz Kathy, the head of the Ministry of Land and Maritime Transport, and Muhammad Mullah, the head of the port, and then issued an arrest warrant against them.”

On August 16, 2020, local time, in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, an excavator carried out demolition work at the explosion site in Beirut Port.

  According to reports, the judge subsequently questioned the three detained Syrian workers and issued an arrest warrant.

Allegedly, the three workers had been welding operations in the port warehouse 12 hours before the explosion.

  According to sources, the judge is expected to question the four port officials again on September 1.

  A violent explosion occurred in the Beirut port area of ​​Lebanon on the evening of August 4, causing thousands of casualties.

The specific cause of the explosion is still unclear.

  After the explosion, large-scale demonstrations in Beirut continued to protest against the explosion and corruption of the authorities.

On August 31, Lebanese President Michel Aoun appointed Mustafa Adib, the country’s ambassador to Germany, as the new Lebanese Prime Minister.

Adib vowed to quickly form a new government and called on all parties in Lebanon to unite and cooperate to work together to restore Lebanon's prosperity.
