The secretary general of the PSE-EE

Idoia Mendia has made public tonight that she will be part of the next Basque Executive.

Mendia has sent an open letter to its militants in which the growing rumor makes official that it would take the step of being part of the new autonomous government that will start with the investiture of Iñigo Urkullu on Thursday and with the appointment of the councilors next Monday, September 7 .

"The PSE-EE is going to roll up its sleeves and it will do so in the first person through its personal secretary,"

Mendia announced on his own decision.

Mendia has finally revealed the most precious unknown after the agreement reached last Thursday by PNV and PSE-EE.

The leader of the Basque Socialists returns to the Basque Government because

between 2009 and 2012 she was a counselor and spokesperson with the Lehendakari Patxi López

and with Iñigo

Urkullu as a

direct

political rival as

president of the PNV.

Eight years later, Mendia will be part of the Urkullu team.

A personal decision shared with the rest of the leadership that

multiplies the political profile of the PSE-EE

in its second consecutive coalition government with the PNV.

Furthermore, the socialist cadres have already closed the presence of

Iñaki Arriola

in the new cabinet.

Mendia and the hitherto Minister of the Environment and Housing were basic pieces in the process that began in 2012 when

Patxi López

gave the witness to Mendia after agreeing with Arriola himself and with

Txarli Prieto

, the leader of the Socialists in Álava.

Eight years later, Mendia is about to return to the Basque Executive and, although he neither confirms nor denies this change, he has acknowledged that

"circumstances"

both in Euskadi and within the PSOE have changed compared to the autumn of 2016.

Almost four years ago, on

October 1, 2016, the Federcal Committee of the PSOE certified the defenestration of Pedro Sánchez as general secretary

and opened one of the most uncertain periods of Spanish socialism.

In Euskadi, Idoia Mendia together with her Secretary of Organization

Miguel Ángel Morales

went to Sabin Etxea two days later -on October 3- to offer "stability" to the PNV with its 9 deputies at the beginning of uncertain conversations to

recover the pacts of coalition that both parties inaugurated 1986

.

An agreement to form an Executive that envisioned a consolidated economic recovery that guaranteed the increase in public resources and the recovery of employment below 10% unemployment.

Idoia Mendia had appealed to these two "circumstances" yesterday in her brief appearance before the media after participating in the consultation on the pact with the PNV.

Mendia has not revealed if she will definitely take the step but everything indicates that with her presence she will compensate for the deficits detected by the Socialists in the last legislature.

The most notable has been his inability to

balance the institutional leadership of Iñigo Urkullu and the media weight of directors such as the spokesman Josu Erkoreka or Arantxa Tapia,

who have overshadowed the bipartisan status of the Basque Executive as the specific initiatives that during the last 4 years have driven by Iñaki Arriola, Alfredo Retortillo and Sonia Pérez and, to a lesser extent, María Jesús San José.

With the

accumulated experience and in a substantially different context

, the presence of Mendia and the continuity of Iñaki Arriola raise the political profile of the PSE-EE representation and condition the appointment of the PNV councilors.

The third socialist councilor will be conditioned by the proposal that the Executive of

Cristina González

transfers from Álava

.

Mendia will return tomorrow to face the question about his presence in the Basque Executive after the

signing of the agreement with Andoni Ortuzar and Iñigo Urkullu

in the Basque Parliament that is scheduled for tomorrow Tuesday.

An act in which the full content of the agreement signed last Thursday will also be revealed but of which only a

summary of just 5 pages

has been provided so far

.

The

National Assembly of the PNV has approved tonight "unanimously"

the government agreement with the PSE and the socialist militants have also given free rein to the signing of the pact.

2,992 affiliates (58.49% of the census) participated in the consultation carried out by the Basque Socialist Party.

2,787 affiliates (93.15%) have ratified the pact

, 169 (5.6%) have voted no and 36 (1.2%) have voted blank.

After the formal signing of the agreement tomorrow, Urkullu will face

his third election

as a

procedure next Thursday

in an unequal political 'duel' with the EH Bildu candidate Maddalen Iriarte in which Urkullu

will add 41 votes and will automatically be proclaimed lehendakari

.

The assumption of office will be completed with the

swearing in at the Gernika Board House scheduled for the 5th

.

The calendar for the start of the new Executive will be completed

on the 7th with the appointment of the new councilors

and their oath or promise in the palace of Ajuria Enea.
