Eric Dupond-Moretti on Tuesday promised "sanctions" in case of dysfunction of justice after the murder and rape of a teenager by a repeat offender in Nantes, and denounced the "populist outbid" on this drama by rejecting any "savage" of the society.

"If justice has malfunctioned, there will be sanctions", assured the Minister of Justice on Europe 1, explaining that he "requested an inspection" on this "atrocious crime".

On August 20, a 15-year-old girl was raped and killed by a repeat pedophile, who confessed to the murder on Saturday.

Sentenced to eighteen years of criminal imprisonment in 2005, released from prison in 2016, this 45-year-old man benefited from a remission of his sentence with socio-judicial monitoring for ten years.

"At this precise moment, we can think that justice followed up," said Eric Dupond-Moretti.

"France is not a cut-throat"

“After a drama like this, we have to shut up.

And we are not obliged to make in the populist one-upmanship, added the minister, reacting to the virulent criticisms formulated by the extreme right and the right this weekend.

"France is not a cut-throat," he said indignantly, recalling that the criminal response rate is "over 90%".

For him, “we cannot say that justice does not work”.

The reinstatement of minimum sentences or security detention, which allows the placement of inmates who have served their sentence but still present a high risk of recidivism in care centers, "that will not help", he said. judge.

"There is no system that allows forgiveness of crimes."

On the other hand, "there is a real subject, it is the reaction of the justice which is sometimes late", he admitted, by promising measures to invent "an immediate response to petty crime.

"

No slavery of society for Dupond-Moretti

Eric Dupond-Moretti has also challenged “the enslavement of society” denounced by the right and by the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin.

"The wildness is a word which (…) develops the feeling of insecurity", he estimated.

But "worse than insecurity, there is the feeling of insecurity" which is "of the order of fantasy" and is fed by "economic difficulties" and "certain media", according to him.

“Of course, in the economic field, the right has nothing to oppose to the President of the Republic, so it comes to sovereign and security issues,” he said ironically.

To show that justice acts, he announced his intention to communicate more often.
