• Security: The menas camp in the Casa de Campo and extend their criminal activities to the Príncipe Pío area

  • Events: The crime of 'menas' increases in Madrid: there are already three out of four minors arrested

Violent crimes in Casa de Campo have increased by

611% compared to the same period of the previous year,

according to judicial sources.

If between June 2019 and June 2020 there were 104 assaults and robberies, in the previous 12 months there were 17 in the Madrid lung.

In these figures, we must also take into account the stage of confinement by the Covid between March 15 and the middle of May, in which the parks were closed.

This meteoric increase in robberies and robberies coincides with the start-up in April 2019 of the reception center for unaccompanied foreign minors (

menas

) located in the former Richard Schirrmann youth hostel, a facility managed by the Diagrama Foundation with 65 housed men.

At least

fifteen of these young Maghrebis are a continuous source of conflict

and are the ones who commit misdeeds outside and inside the center.

Although the Casa de Campo is located in the Moncloa district, many of the violent crimes have been reported at the Latina police station, where the residents of the Batán neighborhood live, who are the ones who frequent the largest park in the capital.

As a result of the more than one hundred complaints, some 20 minors have been arrested in 2020, many of them repeat offenders.

The SUP (Unified Police Union)

links this exponential growth in violent crime

to the arrival of menas to the area.

The union said yesterday that the outlook is complicated in the Casa de Campo, since robberies and violent assaults are "generating social alarm among citizens due to the situation of these minors."

The situation is so tense that even

the Madrid City Council has asked the Community to move the

menas

from the Casa de Campo

.

Last July, the councilor of Moncloa, Loreto Sordo, sent a letter to the Minister of Social Policies requesting to refer them to "more adequate housing resources" after the robberies and attacks.

The residents of El Batán have also been denouncing for months that their quiet neighborhood is now a "dangerous place."

A report indicates that most of the violent crimes that occur in the Casa de Campo are committed by a small group of Maghreb minors who

usually assault the victims with the

mataleón

procedure

.

They approach people from behind and strangle them, arms around their necks, until they lose consciousness.

At that moment they take the opportunity to loot them.

The last violent episode was suffered a few days ago by the owner of a Chinese business located next to the Batán subway and 10 days ago a 72-year-old woman was assaulted near her house on Padre Piquer street, outside the Casa de Campo.

«

Far from descending, the robberies continue and spread to Madrid Río and Príncipe Pío.

And before the Covid they also robbed tourists who went to the cable car, ”says a young neighbor.

In addition, residents report that there are a score of less than when they turn 18 and have to leave the center, they are still in the area.

"Some are living in shops or have occupied the abandoned restaurants in the Paseo de la Restauración," says another resident.

After a meeting with the Councilor for Social Policies in July, the residents have seen their complaints reinforced.

"They recognized us that they do not know how to deal with the problem and also the location encourages crimes to be committed."
