It is now official, President Alpha Condé is a presidential candidate in Guinea.

The election is scheduled for October 18.

Despite months of contestation against this candidacy for a third term, the outgoing president maintains his ambitions.

His party logically defends its decision to stand again, the opposition already preparing its actions to protest.

Unlike 2010 and 2015, this time, Alpha Condé did not make a speech to announce his candidacy.

His party took care of it.

In the entourage of Alpha Condé, it is explained that there is a parallelism of “

forms

”: it is his party which was requesting, it returned to the RPG Arc-en-ciel, to announce its candidacy.

His supporters now hope to see him complete projects.

His first term of office and his second were interrupted by Ebola and the Covid-19, not to mention the political demonstrations that have punctuated throughout his two terms,

Papa Koly Kourouma, spokesperson for Codecc, the Democratic Convention for Change in Continuity.

We believe that this mandate is needed to be able to finalize its work.

It is therefore advantageous for us since the law allows him to still be there to finish what he started

Appeal to ECOWAS

For the support of the Head of State, the counters restart from zero with the new Constitution.

The political class was quick to react.

Little surprised by this announcement, the opponent Bah Oury denounces "

a headlong rush

 ".

The FNDC (opposition and civil society) condemns this candidacy and calls for “

sacred union

” against a possible third term of Alpha Condé, which symbolizes a decline in democracy in the eyes of Ibrahima Diallo, in charge of FNDC operations.

“

Alpha Condé, who claims a 40-year fight for democracy, today dedicates himself, denies all his fight and today agrees to change the Constitution to stay in power.

The demonstrations will resume effectively against the confiscation of power against the constitutional coup.

It is also an appeal that we are going to make to ECOWAS through these demonstrations to say that, to avoid the Malian scenario, ECOWAS should really be able to take up its responsibilities and ask Mr. Alpha Condé to withdraw his candidacy, and give up. to his third term for peace and social tranquility in Guinea

Cellou Dalein Diallo candidate?

The FNDC announces the resumption of protests, but before that, this platform of the opposition and civil society must clarify things internally.

A meeting of the FNDC steering committee is taking place this Tuesday afternoon.

Each political leader must say whether or not he launches himself in the presidential race.

We should in particular know if Cellou Dalein Diallo is a candidate.

But if he decides to go, he risks losing the support of the FNDC, since the platform is firm on this point: any presidential candidate is automatically excluded.

Because the FNDC believes that it is the entire electoral process that is biased, that it is therefore impossible to demonstrate alongside it, against a candidacy of the Head of State, while campaigning.
