On Thursday, the issue of Västerås Airport will be raised again in the City Council.

Earlier this summer, the question of Västerås airport was referred back from the municipal council to the municipal board, so that the investigation into the airport would be supplemented based on 15 questions that the opposition wanted answered, on the initiative of the Moderates.

In the re-referral, the County Administrative Board has commented on Västerås Airport, but when the matter was returned to the municipal board and a decision on the airport was made again, the County Administrative Board's opinion was not included, which provoked debate.

Instead, the County Administrative Board's opinion has been shortened to one sentence.

The County Administrative Board: "Major consequences"

In an official response emailed to the city of Västerås, which SVT Nyheter Västmanland has read, the County Administrative Board writes that a closure of Västerås airport can have "major consequences".

They write that: "In order to avoid that in the event of a crisis and war, regional competition arises between different regional actors over resources, it is important to ensure that such an important resource as an airport continues to exist in Västmanland."

The corona pandemic is also mentioned in the opinion.

"The experience from the ongoing pandemic demonstrates the need to secure its own resources, regardless of whether it concerns healthcare equipment or infrastructure such as an airport," the County Administrative Board writes.
