China News Agency reporter Zhang Tianfu

On the 31st, the Qinghai Province official held a kick-off meeting for the three-year comprehensive improvement of the ecological environment in the Muli mining area and the Qinghai area on the southern foot of the Qilian Mountains. A reporter from China News Agency visited the Muli mining area at an altitude of about 4,000 meters.

The Muli mining area is about 160 kilometers away from Tianjun County, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province. There are mountains along the line, vegetation like carpets, clear rivers like jade, and wild animals appearing from time to time, which is a beautiful view of Qilian Mountains.

But after entering the Juhugeng mining area in Muli, the reporter saw an exposed giant coal pit with water in the pit.

In the coal mining pit, several excavators are undergoing repair work. According to the construction personnel, the construction period will be 46 days, and the restoration will be carried out in the mode of partial backfilling of the mining pit, slope and slag hill improvement, vegetation restoration, and natural connection of surface water systems.

On August 4, the media reported that Qinghai Xingqing Industry and Trade Engineering Group Co., Ltd., in the name of ecological restoration and governance, conducted predatory mining in the Muli mining area in the hinterland of the southern foot of the Qilian Mountains, with a profit of tens of billions of yuan. The chairman of the company is even known as the "invisible richest man" in Qinghai.

After that, Qinghai Province responded vigorously. On the 6th and 9th, Qinghai Province held two press conferences to determine that the company involved was suspected of violating laws and regulations. The responsible persons of the company involved were taken compulsory measures and many officials were dismissed.

At the same time, Qinghai Province announced the cessation of all production and operation activities in the Muli mining area and renamed the Muli Coalfield Administration Bureau to the Muli Coalfield Ecological Protection Bureau. The reporter saw in the mining area that the Muli Coalfield Ecological Protection Bureau had raised several ecological protection signs in the mining area. On the 12th, Qinghai Province held a provincial eco-environmental protection warning education conference.

After the beginning of autumn, the plateau climate gradually turned cooler, and the mining area ushered in snow a few days ago. The snow on the mountain slopes had not melted that day. At the kick-off meeting, Nobunaga Singh, governor of Qinghai Province, said that this comprehensive improvement of the ecological environment is a "political test" and "ecological test."

Qinghai Provincial Party Committee Secretary Wang Jianjun said earlier that he must act vigorously, focus on the priority of the action plan, pay close attention to every day, do everything well, and never retreat until the goal is reached, and never retreat until the goal is won.

The action plan proposes that from August to October this year, the foundation will be laid in two months, and 50% of the basic tasks will be completed. From November to December, we will seize the time without stopping work and explore the formation of a new ecological governance system and ecological governance capabilities.

In 2021, the action plan proposes that the image will be green in two years, and in 2022, the park will be effective in three years, creating a model for the restoration of the ecological environment of the mines in the plateau alpine region, and building the plateau alpine mine ecological park.

Liu Youbin, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China, previously stated that in the future, a comprehensive inspection of the ecological restoration and governance of the Muli mining area will be organized every year to promote effective rectification.

We should wait and see how the results of this "ecological examination" are. (Finish)
