Olympia Fields (dpa) - Golf superstar Tiger Woods missed the multi-million dollar season end of the PGA Tour.

The 15-time major winner finished the second tournament of the FedExCup playoffs at the Olympia Fields Country Club just outside Chicago in shared 51st place. Woods could not qualify for the battle for the $ 15 million jackpot of the 30 best golfers at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta from Thursday. In the decisive FedExCup ranking, Woods did not get past 63rd place. In 2018, the 44-year-old triumphed at the tour finals in Atlanta.

Jon Rahm secured victory in the BMW Championship endowed with $ 9.5 million. The 25-year-old Spaniard prevailed in the jump-off on the first extra hole against the American Dustin Johnson. Previously, both had taken 276 strokes for the four rounds of the par-70 course. For his fifth win on the lucrative US tour, Rahm received $ 1.71 million in prize money.

In the FedExCup rankings he climbed to second place behind Johnson. The winner of this ranking will win a bonus of $ 15 million at the tour finals. German golfers did not qualify for the playoff series.
