This is a special educational event.

April 15th is the fifth National Security Education Day for all people. Just after dawn, five veterans from Zhangjiagang Squadron of the Armed Police Jiangsu Corps gathered at the home of Huang Xiaorong, a veteran of the Korean War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. They had already agreed with their squadron comrades in the camp: today, the flag raising ceremony held by Mr. Huang in front of his house will be broadcast live.

The clock ticked, and at 8 o'clock in the morning, the exciting and majestic national anthem sounded. In front of the camera, the 93-year-old Huang Xiaorong tried to straighten his waist, pulling the rope with his slightly trembling hands, and the five-star red flag rose slowly and fluttered in the wind. In the barracks, the officers and soldiers of the squadron solemnly salute the flag and veterans.

"When soldiers are on the battlefield, they must heroically kill the enemy and regard death as home, and they must guard the five-star red flag." After the ceremony, Huang Xiaorong watched the familiar faces of the squadron officers and soldiers through video, and recalled the years of war.

In February 1950, Huang Xiaorong joined the army. In October of the same year, he was already a member of the Communist Party and joined the army to participate in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. In a foreign country, he and his comrades fought bloody battles. After returning from the army, he worked in farming at ease and rarely mentioned his combat experience.

Until 2013, the then squadron instructor Cheng Yi accidentally heard that there was a veteran who participated in the war raising the national flag in his small courtyard every day, so he took 8 soldiers to find Huang Xiaorong to pay his respects, and solemnly presented a new five-star red flag to the seniors. .

On that day, Huang Xiaorong put on a clean white shirt and held the flag-raising ceremony with the officers and soldiers of the squadron for the first time.

Since then, officers and soldiers of the squadron will come to Huang Xiaorong's home to raise the national flag, receive red traditional education, and present 21 national flags to Huang Xiaorong's home on important anniversaries such as the founding of the Party and National Day.

From "1" to "21", with the passage of time, the five-star red flag witnessed the original instincts of a veteran, and also recorded the touching story of Huang Xiaorong and the squadron, which inspired the growth and progress of a crop of officers and soldiers. Huang Xiaorong also Became the "special instructor" of the squadron.

"The battle stories told by Huang Lao always make me excited." Squadron Corporal Liu Ping said that he didn't work hard enough when he first joined the army. A flag-raising ceremony ended. Hearing Huang Lao talked about the fact that 10 comrades in a squad entered the war in the DPRK, they only survived. After returning to the fighting experience of the four people, Liu Ping was deeply moved. Later on the training ground, he tried his best in every movement and never gave up even if he was injured.

At the end of last year, the squadron participated in the selection and assessment of the paradigm squadron for grassroots construction of the Armed Police Force. Due to the high selection standards and strict requirements, some officers and soldiers have ideological burdens. The day before the assessment, the squadron organized officers and soldiers to Huang Xiaorong's home to participate in the flag-raising ceremony and mobilize under the national flag. Encouraged by the spirit of the elders, the officers and soldiers of the squadron worked together and finally won the medal.

Today, the smoke on the battlefield has gradually faded with the years, but Huang Xiaorong urged that the squadron with the most officers and soldiers is still "practice the ability to kill the enemy in order to defend the country." The officers and soldiers also kept in mind the teachings, practiced hard work, and continued to write a new history for the squadron.

The weather is clear and the wind is fading. Seeing the bright five-star red flag and the firm eyes of the young officers and soldiers in the camera, Huang Xiaorong was relieved. He believes that the cause he is fighting for will be passed on from generation to generation by more officers and soldiers. (Chen Li and Wang Guangbao Shayue)
