  • Chavismo: Deputy Juan Requesens released after two years in the Helicoide dungeons

Nicolás Maduro has today decreed

the largest presidential pardon in revolutionary times

when there are only a few days left until the nominations for the candidate for the December parliamentary elections are closed.

The list is so extensive that it ranges from political prisoners to jailed deputies to persecuted and disqualified leaders,

including exiles and refugees in foreign embassies in Caracas.

The decision, which was suspected since last week, comes three days after the release of parliamentarian Juan Requesens, after two years in unjust jail.

The former university leader has refused to swell the lists of candidates for the National Assembly (AN), one of the regime's strategies to torpedo the opposition's unity.

Among the beneficiaries are the two deputies who suffer illegal imprisonment,

Gilber Caro and Renzo Prieto

, two of Chavismo's favorite victims for years.

Both are members of Voluntad Popular (VP), the party of the president in charge,

Juan Guaidó.

Other emblematic political prisoners are also on the list, such as the critical Chavista

Nicmer Evans

.

Political leaders of great weight such as

Henry Ramos Allup

, leader of Acción Democrática (AD), a party ally of the PSOE;

Juan Pablo Guanipa

, vice president of the democratic Parliament;

Simón Calzadilla and Luis Florido

, among others.

Roberto Marrero

, Guaidó's chief of staff until his arrest last year, is also among the beneficiaries, as well as the Spanish-Venezuelan

Demosthenes Quijada

, a close collaborator of the opposition leader whose release the Spanish government had insistently demanded.

Among the exiles are

Tomás Guanipa

, who currently serves as Guaidó's ambassador to Colombia.

And among the asylees in embassies is

Freddy Guevara

, VP number two, who has remained since 2017 in the Chilean legation of Caracas.

"The intention of the Bolivarian Government is to deepen the process of national reconciliation, for the national union, so that political affairs are settled by peaceful and democratic means," justified Vice President

Jorge Rodríguez

, who acknowledged the contacts of the high government with factors of the opposition.

Among them, although not public, is the former presidential candidate

Henrique Capriles

, who has sought ways of understanding to free the prisoners and to whom a large part of the release of his partner in Primero Justicia, Requesens, is attributed.

Until a few hours ago,

in the dungeons of Chavismo, almost 400 political prisoners remained

, according to figures from the Penal Forum, recognized by the Organization of American States (OAS).
