Electrek reported that auto maker Tesla will launch a new release to update its software, which will allow vehicles to visually detect signs of speed limits.
This was revealed in the company's software update 2020.36 released on Saturday, introducing a new feature called "Speed Assist Improvements".
For a while, Tesla has been using GPS data to discover speed limits and feed the automated driver this information.
"Speed Monitor now uses your car's cameras to detect speed limit signs on the road, to improve the accuracy of data on local roads," the company said in its update. "The detected speed limit signs will be displayed in the dashboard and used to set the speed limit."
The other feature that Tesla intends to introduce in the new update is the issuance of a feature that will emit a special sound from the car when the traffic light turns green, to alert the driver that it is time to go.
It may take a few weeks for all updates to arrive on Tesla cars, as is always the case with the company, but when it does, it will bring Tesla one step further forward from the fully autonomous driving phase.
At the moment you still have to make the decision to move your car as soon as you hear the sound of the cars behind you on the signal when it turns green, but the fact that your car recognizes the green light and your location according to other drivers means that it may soon be able to make the decision to move on its own.
