China News Agency, Beijing, August 31 (Reporter Ma Haiyan) The Ministry of Education of China emphasized on the 31st that in principle, the name of colleges and universities cannot be named after individuals. Institutions of higher learning should maintain a stable name, and in principle, the interval for name changes at the same level should be at least 10 years.

In order to further standardize the naming work of colleges and universities, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, combined with the actual setting of colleges and universities, the Ministry of Education has researched and formulated the "Interim Measures for the Naming of Colleges and Universities" (hereinafter referred to as the "Interim Measures") and officially issued it.

The "Interim Measures" emphasizes that without authorization, names that have been used by other institutions of higher learning are not allowed. An independent school transferred from an independent college shall not include the name of the original school and its abbreviation.

The "Interim Measures" stated that the naming of colleges and universities should adhere to the consistency of name and reality, be accurate and standardized, reflect the school-running philosophy, highlight the connotation and characteristics, and avoid being greedy for everything. The name is determined according to the talent training objectives, school level, scale, type, subject category, teaching and research level, affiliation, location, etc., and implements one school for one system.

The "Interim Measures" put forward clear regulations on the use of geographical fields, subject or industry fields, and English translations in the names of colleges and universities. It must not be prefixed with the customary words representing China and the world, as well as regional and regional variants; it must not be prefixed with domain names other than the city where the school is located; schools organized by the provincial people’s government can use provincial naming, and other schools must use the province For the naming of the domain, the provincial people’s government shall be responsible for overall supervision, but the location of the school must be specified in the name.

Without authorization, it is not allowed to use trademarks, font sizes, names, etc. owned by other organizations or individuals, or to use Chinese translations and abbreviations of foreign universities. Agriculture, forestry, and normal colleges and universities will continue to retain the names of agriculture, forestry, and teachers in principle when they are merged or adjusted; to avoid the coexistence of multiple disciplines or industry categories, in principle no more than two; when using the same discipline or industry field, in the province The range should be distinguishable. The English translation of the name is consistent with the Chinese name. Transliteration can be used for fields with special meaning in the school Chinese name.

According to the Ministry of Education, this approach applies to the naming of full-time universities, independently established colleges, higher vocational schools (including undergraduate-level vocational schools and junior-level vocational schools), and higher technical schools after the release.
