Belarus Mass protest in Minsk against Lukashenko as a birthday present
Covid-19 Alexander Lukashenko, the only European leader who continues to deny the coronavirus
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, today relieved Belarusian Ambassador to Spain, Pável Pustovói,
from his post for his criticism of police violence in his country
and his support for a new recount of the votes cast in the controversial presidential elections of the past August 9.
According to the BELTA agency,
Lukashenko signed today the decree of dismissal of Pustovoi
, who also held the position of Belarusian representative before the International Tourism Organization.
Lukashenko, in power since 1994, had already relieved the Belarusian ambassador to Slovakia last week for the same reason.
Pustovoi commented on August 19 on his Facebook page that the situation in the former Soviet republic
was "unacceptable" in a 21st century European country
.
In addition, he
advocated a new recount of the votes
as a way to peacefully resolve the crisis, a judicial investigation against those who beat the protesters and instigated the disproportionate use of force by the riot police.
One of the leaders of the unified opposition, Pavel Latushko, who was Minister of Culture and also Belarusian ambassador to Spain, assured Efe that Lukashenko has remained anchored in the 20th century.
More than 100,000 people participated on Sunday in Minsk in the third peaceful march against Lukashenko, who today proposed to reform the Constitution, but refuses to dialogue with the opposition coordinating Council for the transfer of power.
