Latvian Foreign Minister Edgar Rinkevich said in a statement that the country "strongly condemns the falsification of the August 9 presidential elections" in Belarus, as well as "the beating of peaceful demonstrators and repressions against journalists."

“With this step, we are sending a powerful signal that such actions are unacceptable for Latvia,” the minister said.

Earlier, Lithuanian leader Gitanas Nauseda said that Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia would announce sanctions against Belarusian officials, including Alexander Lukashenko.

In addition, as the Latvian Foreign Ministry said, Lukashenka's visit to Riga, which was planned in April, has been “removed from the agenda”.
