Danièle Obono, deputy of France Insoumise - Jacques Witt / SIPA

A preliminary investigation was opened by the Paris prosecutor's office for “racist insults” on Monday after the publication of an article by Valeurs Actuelles published on August 27, 2020. It was a fiction depicting Danièle Obono, Member of Parliament for France Insoumise, in slave several centuries ago.

The article had been unanimously condemned by the entire political class. The members of Valeurs Actuelles had refuted any racist character in their publication, even if they had said they understood Danièle Obono's emotion after this article.
