A building housing a restaurant collapsed in China on Saturday, killing 29 people. The tragedy occurred in the morning in Xiangfen, in the province of Shanxi (north).

The birthday of an octogenarian was then celebrated in the restaurant, according to the authorities quoted by the New China agency. A total of 57 people were lifted from the rubble of the restaurant, including dozens of injured.

The building totally gutted

Seven people are seriously injured but their lives are not threatened. The search operations in the rubble were completed this Sunday morning. They mobilized 700 people, specifies the public channel CGTN.

The building had two levels, a ground floor and a second floor. In the images of the incident, it appears completely gutted, with entire sections of walls collapsed in the middle of the old dining room. The cause of the collapse is not yet known.
