The man, who is in his 75s, was on a video link from another room in Jönköping District Court.

He listened patiently as the prosecutor went through the indictment, which includes a total of 42 cases of inadequate storage of environmentally hazardous content, or very environmentally hazardous content.

A large part of the chemicals were found in a room that the prosecutor calls the "hidden room".

The accused denies that the room was hidden, but otherwise lawyer Andreas Grudemo does not want to comment on his client's explanation for the storage of the chemicals.

- I do not want to precede the hearing but he will provide an explanation for what happened during his interrogation tomorrow.

The trial is expected to last nine days.

The prosecutor demands that the accused pay damages of just over three million kronor to the state through the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency for a grant granted for emergency decontamination and removal of the chemicals.

And just over SEK 200,000 in damages to the municipality of Jönköping for overhead costs related to the handling of the chemicals for which no subsidy was received.
