A lamb was sold for 367,000 pounds, or more than 400,000 euros, this Thursday at an auction in Lanark (Scotland), reports Capital . Named Double Diamond, the animal is a Texel breed, native to the Netherlands, but particularly popular in the UK.

This price is a record for a lamb. The precedent dated from 2009 when an animal of the same breed had been sold for the sum of 231,000 pounds (nearly 260,000 euros). If the price of this six-month-old lamb has skyrocketed, it's because it is considered "perfect in every sense of the word."

Jeff Aiken, one of three partnered breeders, has paid the highest price ever commanded by a sheep.

He bought 'Double Diamond' for £ 367,500, in a Lanark auction.

"I thought it was worth a lot of money but I didn't think so much"

It was purchased from breeder Charlie Boden by several farms that partnered up. In the coming months, Double Diamond will travel to exhibit “his head, the color of his hair and around his eyes, his legs”, all elements that flirt with the perfection of this breed.

“I thought he was worth a lot of money but I didn't think so much,” said the breeder who was selling this lamb. The starting bid was set at 10,500 pounds while the average price of a lamb in the UK is 100 pounds. However, rams used for breeding certain breeds, such as Double Diamond, can cost significantly more.
