• Covid-19 Police disperse a coronavirus denial demonstration in Berlin

The Berlin police are investigating the threat of "assault", by some 200 ultra-rightists, of the Reichstag, the seat of the German Parliament, which occurred on Saturday after a march against restrictions due to the pandemic that attracted some 30,000 people.

The images of militants of the radical right, some of them with unconstitutional flags of the old Reich and Nazi symbols, on the steps of the parliamentary headquarters have caused stupor among the great coalition of the German Government.

"The Reichstag building is the symbolic center of our democracy. It is intolerable that chaotic extremists use it for their ends, " Interior Minister Horst Seehofer told the popular daily "Bild" Sunday.

"It is a shame to see Reich flags before our Parliament," declared the Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, through his Twitter account.

"You cannot always be present everywhere. They took advantage of a gap to circumvent the security cordon and climb the steps," said police spokesman Thilo Cablitz, in statements to Berlin's regional public television RBB.

The intention to "take" the parliamentary seat had been announced through social networks days before the demonstration . The police had deployed a device of 3,000 agents to guarantee security this Saturday, in which a hundred concentrations and events of various kinds had been called.

The Reichstag was cordoned off, but at the time of the incidents there were only three officers to contain the ultras . The group finally managed to jump the fence of the fences and pose on the steps.

Throughout the day of mobilization against the restrictions, there were some 300 arrests, most of them far-right. The most serious incidents took place outside the Russian embassy, where a concentration of some 2,000 radicals was dissolved , which then continued to the Reichstag.

The group had disintegrated from the demonstration called by groups of diverse orientations against the restrictions due to the coronavirus. The great march was dissolved by the police, because the distancing measures were not respected, which was followed by another concentration of more than 30,000 people in the Victoria Column.

Support for Putin and Cries against Merkel

The nucleus of the ultra-rightist concentrations, both in the Russian embassy and later in the parliamentary headquarters, were formed by followers of the "identity" movement of the Reichburger ("Reich Citizens"), who do not recognize the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). ) and reject its legal order.

While they displayed their unconstitutional flags in front of the Russian embassy, amid cries of support for the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and slogans and posters hostile to the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, there were launchings of bottles and other objects against the riot control.

The group also included well- known advocates of conspiracy theories , such as the German-Turkish vegan chef Attila Hildmann, the leading figure in these movements, who was arrested.

The presence of far-right elements was very evident throughout the mobilization day , as has been happening in the successive calls that have taken place since July in different parts of Germany against the restrictions.

These calls are supported by citizens who consider their freedom of movement , esoteric associations and very diverse groups violated , as well as recognized Holocaust deniers and members of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), the only parliamentary force that supports these protests.
