The spokesman for the Saudi-Emirati coalition forces, Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, said that the defenses of the coalition intercepted and shot down a "booby-trapped" drone, with which the Houthi gunmen targeted the airport in Abha, southern Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Press Agency quoted Al-Maliki as saying that "as a result of the interception and destruction process, some shrapnel fell on Abha International Airport, without any injuries or damage to civilians, both travelers and airport workers."

Abha airport has previously been attacked by the Houthis, some with missiles and some by drones, such as the attacks that occurred in June 2019.

The airport itself was also subjected to similar attacks from the Houthis in July and August of the same year, and some parts of it were damaged by the bombing.

Since 2015, the coalition has been carrying out military operations in Yemen in support of government forces in the face of the Houthis, while the UAE has spent huge sums of money to train and equip parallel and anti-government forces.

The war, which has been going on for more than 5 years, has put millions of Yemenis on the brink of starvation, and 80% of the population has become dependent on humanitarian aid, in one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
