From fighting the epidemic to fighting the floods, he is charging ahead!

Interviewing Wu Guang is difficult. On the embankment of the Kaotian River in Luogang Town, Huangmei County, Hubei Province, every time a reporter finds him during a break between officers and soldiers, he always waved his hand shyly and said, "Go and interview my comrades in arms. They did everything. Great!"

Several interviews with Wu Guang were unsuccessful. The reporter got this brief introduction from the cadres who accompanied the team: Wu Guang, deputy brigade commander of a pontoon bridge brigade of the Central Theater Army, joined the army for 27 years, participated in the '98 flood fighting and the "Orient Star" shipwreck rescue , "Crossing the Yangtze River-2018" project support inspection exercise, the seventh World Military Games opening and closing ceremonies such as major tasks.

Yang Jun, the instructor of the fourth battalion of the brigade, knew Wu Guang very well. "He usually doesn't talk much, he is very pragmatic, and he does his work vigorously and vigorously." Yang Jun told reporters, "With him, we feel at ease."

On the morning of July 8, a pontoon brigade of the Army of the Central Theater Command was ordered to rush to Huangmei County, Hubei Province to fight floods. At this time, the Kaotian River section had exceeded the warning water level, many dangerous situations appeared, and nearby villages were affected.

More than 300 officers and soldiers rushed for emergency assistance. On the way, Wu Guang organized the team to march while maintaining communication with local officials in Huangmei County, always paying attention to the development of the flood situation.

"The flood situation is severe, and I really have no bottom at the time." Recalling the scene at the time, Gong Jintao, the instructor of the 4th Battalion and the 12th Company, said frankly. After arriving at the mission location, the sight in front of him made him feel nervous when he participated in the flood fight for the first time: the Kaotian River has become a suspended river, the flood has overflowed the dam, and there are many large and small piping nearby, and Guiba Village has been flooded. The villagers are anxiously waiting for rescue...

"All the assault boats are launched urgently, save people first!" Wu Guang decisively issued an order, and more than 10 assault boats rushed to Guiba Village. Subsequently, according to each person's professional expertise and carrying equipment, he divided the remaining personnel into two groups, one group was responsible for blocking the piping, and the other group was responsible for dealing with the dangerous situation of the overflow dike. Wu Guang went to the river embankment to inspect carefully to ensure that he knew everything about the rescue.

This inspection does not matter. He found a more dangerous situation-a piping group appeared on a 300-meter-long embankment section, and nearly one-third of the piping was in muddy water. This means that the river bank is in danger of collapsing at any time!

"Hurry up, hurry up!" The local government urgently transported sand, gravel, steel pipes, wooden piles and other materials. According to the situation on the scene, Wu Guang organized officers and soldiers to take measures such as mechanical pile planting, construction of anti-filter enclosures, and construction of sub-dikes. After more than 10 hours of continuous fighting, the danger was finally brought under control. At the same time, all the trapped people were safely transferred.

From the emergency rescue mission on July 8th to the completion of the rescue mission on August 7, Wu Guang led the officers and soldiers on the front line of flood fighting day and night. They dealt with more than 10 dangers and filled and moved 110,000 sandbags. The flood-proof fortifications they built were praised by local water conservancy experts. "A benchmark like a textbook."

Wu Guang’s Pontoon Brigade has been on duty along the Yangtze River all year round. It was awarded the honorary title of "Model Brigade for Flood Fighting and Rescue" by the Central Military Commission. It is a national-level professional force for flood relief and emergency response. Over the years, Wu Guang insisted on regularly recording the water level information of the Yangtze River and lakes near the station, in-depth research on flood control issues, and participated in the improvement of emergency rescue plans many times. Whenever he encounters urgent, dangerous and heavy tasks, he actively invites battles and strives to be the vanguard.

Just a few months ago, at the critical juncture of Wuhan's fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Wu Guang led a convoy to join the force in Hubei's anti-epidemic support team and fought for 68 consecutive days to achieve zero personnel infection, zero vehicle accidents, and zero task errors. It provides a strong transportation support guarantee for winning the defense war in Hubei and Wuhan.

From fighting the epidemic to fighting floods, from cold winter to scorching heat, from the streets and lanes of Wuhan to the mountains, rivers and lakes of Huangmei, no matter what difficulties and challenges he faced, Wu Guang always charged forward and used “retrograde” campaigns to raise the interests of the people. Raised overhead. (Reporter Zhou Yuan)
