According to the study by the Economic and Social Observatory on the mechanism of money laundering and the financing of terrorism, several sources potentially fuel terrorism in Burkina Faso . “  First of all, it concerns external funding and endowments,” explains Bernabé Kambou, the coordinator of the Economic and Social Observatory, which comes from certain States and certain non-governmental organizations. There is also the income from crime. Self-financing is the most important activity today, in particular through the exploitation of natural resources such as gold. "

Apart from banks and financial institutions, non-financial professionals such as real estate companies, transport, casinos and others do not always report suspicious transactions, according to Bernabé Kambou. “  Some of these attacks have been carried out with inbound money laundering funding. We have a weakly controlled non-profit sector. The trend of money laundering and terrorist financing in the non-profit sector is high. The control carried out during creation and during their activity is limited.  "

About 80 billion FCFA have been used to finance terrorism in Burkina Faso, according to the Economic and Social Observatory.
