17 people have died in a restaurant crash in Xiangfen, northern China, according to AFP news agency.

The two-story building collapsed in local time on Saturday morning. According to Xinhua news agency, 45 people have been brought out. Of these, 28 have been injured, seven of them seriously. 700 people are involved in the rescue operation.

The cause of the accident is not clear, but similar cases are not uncommon in China. The reason for this is generally considered to be the rapid growth of the land, which is why builders are slipping off regulations on a tight schedule.

Rescuers lifted the roof of the collapsed restaurant off the crash site with a crane.
