The MP also asked whether the European Commission intends to call or recommend mass vaccination of the population against influenza in order to avoid a simultaneous peak of epidemics of various viral infections, taking into account the likelihood that "a new surge in the spread of COVID-19" may coincide with a seasonal flu outbreak.

At the same time, Casares recalled that earlier a vaccine against coronavirus infection had been created in Russia, and asked if the EC was considering the possibility of acquiring a Russian development.

“Is the commission working to ensure that there is enough flu vaccine for the 2020-2021 season? How does the commission feel about the vaccine recently approved in Russia? Is the commission considering purchasing this vaccine? " - specified in the text.

As noted in the MEP's request, the initial stage of the spread of COVID-19 in Europe fell on January-February 2020, coinciding with the seasonal peak in the incidence of influenza.

According to representatives of the medical community, Casares specified, the current situation could "overshadow the initial spread of the coronavirus, which ultimately went unnoticed."

We will remind, on August 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the registration in the country of the vaccine against COVID-19, developed by the Gamaleya Center. It was named Sputnik V.

In turn, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev said that in total Moscow received requests from 20 countries for almost 1 billion doses of the vaccine.
