It was not a quiet river, but the tram on line F to Koenigshoffen, in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), is finally on the rails, ready to welcome its first passengers. A line extension that has known many disagreements and provoked long discussions, reflections and political games over the past four years. Lively debates on its route, its usefulness, tensions with the inhabitants, the project was even considered for a time on tires ...

But this time, things are going well and after two years of work, the new section will be put into service this Saturday. It will thus be possible to take the 1,723 meters of additional tracks of this extension to reach Koenigshoffen. And this is just the beginning because the final objective is to reach the Poteries stop then Wolfisheim. A desire carried by several candidates in the last municipal elections, including in particular the new mayor of Strasbourg Jeanne Barseghian. A project would be under study.

Three new stations and a relay car park

Concretely, line F now pulls to the Koenigshoffen district with three new specially created stations. “Porte Blanche” which will constitute an exchange hub connected with the buses of line 2 and line 10 of the CTS network, located on Boulevard de Nancy. “Parc des Romains”, with a new relay car park with 340 spaces
. Finally, the “Comtes” station, the temporary terminus of the line. The three new stations should welcome 4,000 to 5,000 additional customers per day on the line, estimates the Compagnie des Transports Strasbourg (CTS).

Note that for the first time, a section of the tram line, Boulevard de Nancy in this case, will also serve as a stop for buses which will be authorized to circulate there (lines 2 and 10). A first on the Strasbourg network, which will make it possible to improve punctuality and lighten car traffic a little while the road network has been greatly reduced in this place in favor of the tram ...

This new extension will make it easier for residents of the Gare and Koenigshoffen districts to travel and will serve the main public facilities. After a period of tests, the official inauguration in the presence of the authorities will be held this Friday while the public will be able to fully enjoy it from Saturday.
