Donald Trump officially became the Republican presidential nominee in the US presidential elections in November. Trump announced his consent to participate in the elections, speaking on August 27 to participants in the Republican convention.

“Fellow Americans! Today I accept with gratitude, boundless optimism and pride the nomination for the presidency of the United States of America. The Republican Party, the party of Abraham Lincoln, remains united and determined. She is ready to welcome millions of Democrats, independent and all who believe in the greatness of America and the righteous fire in the hearts of Americans, ”- Trump said during his speech.

The 2020 presidential election will be the most important in US history, he said. American voters will have a choice - to keep the "American dream" by voting for Trump, or to give the "socialist agenda" to destroy the country, the head of the White House said.

Trump's nomination ceremony for the Republican presidential nomination ended at the White House convention of the party's National Committee.

Program speech

Donald Trump's speech lasted over an hour. In his speech, the 45th US President listed the most significant, in his opinion, achievements of the current administration. For example, he drew attention to the fact that under his leadership the United States managed to force its NATO allies to spend more on defense and financing the bloc.

“For example, our NATO partners had large arrears in defense payments. However, as a result of my persistent appeals, they agreed to pay $ 130 billion more a year. Ultimately, this amount will reach $ 400 billion. NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg was amazed and said that I was able to do what no one else has been able to do, "Trump said.

According to Konstantin Blokhin, a researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, despite the victory over the members of the alliance, Trump's actions have caused disunity in relations between the United States and its European comrades in NATO.

“Indeed, Trump made NATO allies pay more, but thereby he hit the Euro-Atlantic solidarity, unity and cohesion of the West at a crucial period in history,” the political scientist said.

Also, the current US president said that his administration has stabilized the situation in the Middle East.

“When I took over as President, the Middle East was in chaos. The Islamic State * was rampant there, Iran was gaining momentum, and the war in Afghanistan did not see an end or end, ”he said.

In his accomplishments in the region, he recorded the breaking of the "terrible" nuclear deal with Iran, the relocation of the US embassy to Jerusalem, and the recognition of Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Donald Trump added that the United States "destroyed 100% of the ISIS caliphate" and its founder Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, and also eliminated "the number one terrorist in the world" Qasem Soleimani.

Trump's words concerning the Middle East are a good mine for a bad game, says Konstantin Blokhin.

“Whether the assassination of Soleimani, which almost led to a large-scale war between the United States and Iran, and the strike on the Syrian airbase Shayrat, can be regarded as stabilization is a big question. In addition, in the fight against ISIS * Russian troops were more effective than the American ones, ”the expert explained.

Donald Trump also said that, unlike previous administrations, he prevented the United States from entering new wars, while spending almost $ 2.5 trillion to rebuild the American army. He also noted that for the first time in 75 years, a new type of troops was created in the US Armed Forces - the US Space Force.

Political perspective

In addition to listing his achievements, the head of state made a number of far-reaching promises to voters, which he will fulfill if he is re-elected for a second term.

So, he said that if he won in November 2020, he would turn the United States into an industrial superpower, create 10 million new jobs in 10 months, while reducing the tax burden. In addition, Trump said his administration will seek to transfer the manufacturing facilities of American companies from China back to the United States by imposing duties on such companies.

Also, under his leadership, the United States will create the world's best missile defense and cybersecurity system and win the race for leadership in 5G technologies, Trump promised.

One of the most memorable statements in Trump's speech was his promise to make the United States the first country to send a woman astronaut to the moon and raise its flag on Mars.

According to political scientist and Americanist Dmitry Drobnitsky, Trump will be able to create the promised number of jobs only by breaking the political resistance of Democratic governors and congressmen.

“If the infrastructure bill of $ 1-3 trillion is adopted, then, accordingly, a large number of jobs will be created, which will facilitate the transfer of production facilities to the United States. In addition, if only American goods and components are purchased for this infrastructure project, this will spur this program, "the political scientist emphasized in an interview with RT.

In turn, Konstantin Blokhin, commenting on Trump's statements about sending an expedition to the moon and landing on Mars, noted that, despite such far-reaching promises, the Trump administration should not forget about other powers with space ambitions.

“Space is a priority not only for the United States, but also for other countries, including Russia and China. Time will tell who will be the first, ”the political scientist noted.

As the director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, Yuri Rogulyov, notes, Trump's speech is pre-election rhetoric against the background of the absence of an action plan to resolve many problems.

"This political campaign statement, in which Trump emphasized his successes, is pure rhetoric, because there are actually more problems in the United States and he did not present practical steps to solve them, although much of what he said is partially true," the political scientist emphasized.

Biden's criticism

During his speech, Donald Trump repeatedly criticized his rival in the upcoming elections - former Vice President Joe Biden. Trump has mentioned him 42 times. The head of the White House said that Biden's actions as deputy head of state during the Barack Obama administration caused serious damage to the US economy and the American working class.

“Biden's track record is a disgraceful enumeration of the most disastrous betrayals and miscalculations of our time. Throughout his career, he has been on the wrong side of history. Biden voted for the monstrous NAFTA - the worst trade agreement ever passed. He supported China's entry into the World Trade Organization, which led to one of the greatest economic disasters in history. As a result of Biden's mistakes, the United States has lost one in four manufacturing jobs, ”Trump said.

Trump also noted that if he wins the elections in November, Joe Biden will introduce quarantine in the United States, which will destroy the country's economy. Also, the Republican accused the former vice-president of pandering to the interests of China and said that the PRC would "take over America" if Biden wins.

According to Dmitry Drobnitsky, Trump actively criticizes and attacks Biden, since the former ex-president is not actively campaigning and, under the pretext of a pandemic, isolated himself in his home state of Delaware.

"If we compare the election campaigns of Biden and Trump, then Biden is less proactive, since he conducts a basement election campaign from his home," the expert emphasized.

The choice of Americans will depend on how they assess the ability of candidates for the presidency to be the leader of the nation, Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in an interview with RT.

“Despite Trump's shortcomings, Americans see him as a leader they don't yet see in his adversary Joe Biden. This will undoubtedly have a negative impact on the electoral campaign of the Democrats, ”the expert said.

According to Yuri Rogulev, Trump's chances of re-election now depend solely on the state of the American economy and the further development of the situation with the spread of coronavirus in the United States.

“It depends on the economic situation and the epidemic. If by the time of the elections there will be an improvement - the economy will recover, the number of cases will decrease - then Trump's chances of re-election will remain, ”the expert emphasized.

It is worth noting that, in addition to the election of the head of state, all 435 members of the House of Representatives and a third of the US Senate will also be re-elected in November 2020. Experts point out that Trump could find himself in a quandary if the Republican Party loses its advantage in the Senate, which means the final word in the adoption of bills.

“Trump will remain a lame duck if the current divided congress situation continues. But he worked out an authoritarian model of government, which is that America is largely governed by presidential decrees, so he will strengthen the authoritarian presidency, ”concluded Vladimir Vasiliev.
