  • Education: The Government leaves the closure of schools in the case of coronavirus infections in the hands of the autonomies

Educational centers will only close if there is an uncontrolled transmission of Covid-19 . All schools and institutes must have a stock of personal protective equipment (PPE) for teachers to use in case a student has symptoms of coronavirus. If the child presents a picture of acute respiratory infection with fever, cough or a sensation of shortness of breath, they will be put on a surgical mask, taken to a separate room and the Covid coordinator and the families will be contacted . The accompanying teacher, for his part, will put on a surgical mask or FFP2 without a valve, as well as a face shield and a disposable gown.

The suspect will have to wait in a ventilated room and a pedal bin until his parents pick him up. You will need to be isolated at home until you have the results of the diagnostic tests. If the case is confirmed, they should not go to school and should remain in isolation until three days after the end of the clinical picture and a minimum of 10 days from the onset of symptoms, even if they are asymptomatic.

Next, the Covid head of the school will give the autonomous community a list of classmates and teachers who have been in contact with the affected person in the 48 hours prior to the appearance of symptoms. Your close contacts (those who are part of your stable cohabitation group) will quarantine for 14 days from the last time they saw each other and undergo a PRC . Even if this test is negative, the isolation will continue until day 14. A PCR can also be performed at 10 days and the quarantine suspended in case of obtaining a negative.

If the case belongs to a stable cohabitation group, the classroom will be closed for 10 or 14 days. If they do not belong to a stable coexistence group, close contacts will be quarantined and the rest of the class will follow up on "normal educational activity, taking extreme precautionary measures and carrying out passive surveillance of the center."

This is stated in the draft of the Guide to action before the appearance of cases of Covid-19 in educational centers prepared by the Ministry of Health that this Thursday Minister Salvador Illa discusses with those responsible for the autonomies.

The text, advanced by La Razón , contemplates the possibility of closing schools but it will only be done if there are many cases or if they get out of control. If three or more cases occur in a classroom or several classrooms, those affected and their contacts will be quarantined and classes will be suspended for 14 days. If there is an outbreak in the context of uncontrolled transmission (when there is "a greater number than expected"), the health services of the Autonomous Communities will carry out a risk assessment "ultimately evaluating the temporary closure of the educational center."

In this scenario, all children will be quarantined and classrooms will be closed for 14 days, although "the duration of this period may vary depending on the epidemiological situation and the level of transmission detected in the educational center."

What if a child has symptoms when he is at home? You will need to have a PCR and remain isolated at home until the result is known.
